Each year, Monroe's Knights of Columbus
Council 10615 distributes Tootsie Rolls at local stores and super
markets to solicit donations for the benefit of the developmentally
handicapped.
And each year, the citizens of Union County have been generous beyond
our expectations. 85% of the funds raised stay in Union County while
15% is placed in a state-wide pool with money raised by other KofC
councils in the North Carolina for emergencies and big-ticket projects.
We call this drive "Operation LAMB" remembering the Christ
calls us to serve and help 'The Least Among My Brothers'. Absolutely
none of the money raised is used for administrative expenses and
everyone involved is a volunteer.
On March 15th, Alvaro Alzate, the LAMB Director of the local KofC
council. presented the proceeds of our 2008 efforts to ARC of Union
County and Designer Genes, two organizations which strive to fill the
needs of the developmentally handicapped in our community. We sincerely
hope this goes a long way toward filling any budgetary gaps suffered
in consequence of the current economic downturn. It is our honor to
be in a position to help in this small way and that makes the long
hours well worth the effort.
