Sir Knight of the Month – November 2008

This most deserving Sir Knight for the “Sir Knight of the Month” award is an individual that has served this Assembly in many capacities and continues to this day with his presence, advice and friendship. He joined the Knights of Columbus by taking his First Degree on October 14, 1983 and became a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus on June 1, 1985. He is a rare individual who agreed to serve two terms as Faithful Navigator, 1993-1994 and 1994- 1995, because the needs of the Assembly were best served if he could stay in office an additional term. He has been in our Honor Guard for many years and became Commander in 1996 and served in that capacity for 7 years. During that time we saw the Honor Guard become an integral part of our Assembly. He saw the number of Honor Guard members double and the functions they participated in increased even though we lost some of our areas due to new Assemblies being formed in High Point and Burlington. In 2006 he advised the Assembly that he would have to cut back on his activities as he had been informed that he had cancer and would be undergoing Chemotherapy treatments for a period of time. All of us have prayed and observed him during this fight he was waging and have marveled at his ability to attend meetings and functions. When the announcement was made, by him, that he was finally cancer free, it was a victory obviously for him, but also for all his friends in the Knights. During his battle he was the “Poster Child” for all of us that had not put a “face” on the Chemotherapy process. He was recently appointed to be the Marshal for our District Master Robert Grabasky and he really looks sharp in his Green Cape and Chapeaux.
It is with great pleasure that we select Sir Knight and Past Faithful Navigator Howard Brink as our first Sir Knight of the Month.
